Customer Training

This morning we had a meeting with a long-time customer. We like to schedule an annual assessment meeting to understand the direction our customers are considering. Panasonic telephone systems are so reliable, we rarely here from our customers unless we contact them.

Lying on the conference table was a set of plans. Our customer has started a side business of training related to the product line he sells. Some of the training leads to certification in the skill to use his products commercially and includes association with local universities. The products also lend themselves to the hobbyist trade. The program has been so successful he is adding a training facility onto his building. There are some issues still, such as adequate parking and reach to trainees beyond the immediate area.

We suggest he consider adding video conferencing. It turns out that many of the classes do not require on-site, hands on activity. In particular, the sessions relating to hobbyist training on the use of the tools and materials fall into that category. There is then the thought that training could be offered world-wide for a small fee. Training sessions could be recorded for online access at any time.

We have discovered a need for a product we supply that the customer had not considered and, more importantly, if he had, may not even have looked to us. It is very important to keep in touch with your customers, and, vice versa, with your suppliers, on your plans. You never know where you can help each other meet your goals.

Is there a place in your firm for video conferencing? Training customers or staff? New product launches? Efficiencies to be derived in a use of your product over others?
